7 BIG CAREERS OF THE FUTURE

These jobs may not exist today, but you can bet your bottom dollar they will soon.
Gone are the days when the only possible answer to ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ was some combo of teacher, doctor, lawyer, and firefighter.

Where the job market was once predictable, new stats say that Gen Z will have between 10 and 15 different jobs in their lifetime.50% of these jobs will, by 2030, be in tech and software development, and it’s predicted that another 30% will be made up of jobs that are yet to exist.

It’s become a lucrative pursuit for futurists (also a cool option if none of the other careers in this article appeal to you), to attempt to predict what these jobs may be, so that everyone can ensure that schools are producing people with relevant skill sets. And they’ve come up with come corkers.
If you’re Gen Z, here are just a few of the things you might find yourself doing by 2030…
Drone Manager

Over the next 10 to 20 years, drones will lose their novelty and become far more common, says Mick Mortlock, senior futurist and co-founder of Imaginexxus LLC. The possibilities of drone use in fields such as farming (spraying crops etc) and aid relief (delivering food and supplies) are already being tested, however they could also become crucial to more niche fields such as archaeology (heat sensing cameras) and may be able to expand internet access to the developing world.
Private Air Traffic Controller

As part of these drone fleets, companies will need to manage their own air traffic control systems. These may cross interstate or international boundaries and require negotiation and cooperation with governments, municipalities and other organizations. Imagine - literal highways of drones flying every which way. Somebody’s gotta manage that!

End-of-Life Coach

The debate surrounding euthanasia over the past decades has raised many previously non-existent questions about death and what it should look like. With many of the baby boomer generation approaching the end of their lives in the next 20 years, people are no longer about adding days to their life, but life to their days. It could be your job to sit down with families to explore their personal values and medical options in order to get them the best last-few-days ever.
Re-wilder

Known in modern times as ‘farmers’, re-wilders will be tasked with restoring land that’s been used for agriculture to its natural ecosystem. As lab-grown food becomes the norm in the future, vast amounts of farmland (and those who till it) will no longer be necessary and will in fact be far more environmentally effective if converted back to loads of trees and jungles n stuff.
Robot Consultant

Everyone knows that come 2030, middle-class houses are virtually guaranteed a sassy, wisecracking and potentially murderous robot helper/friend. But, with AI coming along in leaps and bounds, it’s likely that no two robots will be the same. How do you know which droid to invest in?
Well, that’s where robot consultants come in. They’ll analyse your family, how you interact, and what your most pertinent needs are, and then match you with the bot of your dreams.

Aquaphonic Gardener

Populations of wild fish are decreasing rapidly, and since all that stuff about the environment (eek) people are getting real keen on growing their own gardens. So, what if you could grow a garden out of fish?
No, get that weird image out of your mind, that’s not what I meant. ‘Aquaphonic’ gardens will be self-sustaining mini-ecosystems whereby plants grow over ponds while fish swim below. The plants oxygenate the water whilst the fish feed the plants with their waste. It’s the ciiirrcccllleee of liiiifffeeee.

Nostalgist

This must be the cutest one on the list. Nostalgists are interior designers who specialise in creating environments from the past for people with dementia. The elderly of the future who aren’t fit for life in a retirement home (or don’t fancy the idea), could choose to live in a space designed to look like their favourite decade. Nawww.
